Wanna devour that creamy and chocolaty mocha cookie crumble Frappuccino Starbucks-style without a coffee run? Our homemade version promises a coffee kick with mocha, chocolaty goodness with chocolate sauce, and that signature cookie-and-cream crunch in every sip.

What’s best is that you can make it exactly as sweet as you like and adjust the coffee strength and toppings according to your mood.

What Is a Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino Starbucks?

It is their signature blended drink with coffee, mocha sauce, ice, milk, and Frappuccino chips, with layers of crumbled cookies and whipped cream. Then there’s a drizzle of Frappuccino chips and crumbled cookies.

You can think of it as a blend of a mocha latte and chocolate cookie shake, except that it has coffee and a lot of ice.

What Does A Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino Taste Like?

Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino Starbucks tastes rich and a bit coffee-forward with sweet tones from cookie crumble and whole milk. The slightly bitter base from coffee is complemented by chocolaty mocha. Crumbled cookies give the crunch and sweetness, while whipped cream and milk come in to make it a ‘mellowdious’ concoction.

Starbucks Ingredients Vs Easy Homemade Substitutes

You can make your mocha cookie crumble Frappuccino taste almost like the Starbucks version without stressing about finding the exact ingredients. We’ve tried a lot of variations, and here’s what we suggest for a very similar result:

Starbucks component Home substitute
Frappuccino Roast Strong brewed coffee or espresso
Frappuccino chips Mini chocolate chips or roughly chopped chocolate
Chocolate cookie crumble Crushed Oreos or any chocolate sandwich cookies
Mocha sauce Homemade or store-bought chocolate/mocha sauce
Frappuccino syrup/base Small amount of sweetener + thickener or xanthan gum
Whole milk Whole milk or a dairy-free alternative
Vanilla whipped cream Regular whipped cream would do

We’ve never used all the exact Starbucks ingredients while making our Frappuccino at home, and still it tastes a lot like Starbucks’ if not better.

Ingredients you Need for Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino Starbucks Recipe

For one 16 oz glass of Frappuccino, here’s what you need:

  • ¾ cup of whole milk. You can use a non-dairy alternative, but we prefer whole milk for a creamy, fuller texture.
  • ½ cup strongly brewed chilled coffee or cold brew.
  • 2 to 3 tbsp. Mocha sauce.
  • 2 tbsp crushed chocolate sandwich cookies, plus a bit more for topping.
  • 1 to 2 tbsp. chocolate chips or some crushed chocolate of your choice.
  • 1 to 2 tbsp. vanilla syrup or your preferred sweetener.
  • ¼ tsp. Xanthan gum if you like.
  • Whipped cream
  • Mocha sauce for that drizzle on the top.
  • 1 to 2 cups ice

How to Make a Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino Starbucks Style

Crumble The Cookies

We crush our chocolate sandwich cookies into some smaller and some larger pieces because we like that crunch to survive till the end. Don’t forget to keep some for topping.

Add Frappuccino Ingredients

Now, to a blender, add milk, chocolate chips, mocha sauce, coffee (we prefer chilling it before use), crushed cookies, your sweetener, ice, and xanthan gum for thickness.

Blend

Blend only until you get the creamy texture and to make sure all ice is crushed. We suggest blending for not more than 20 to 30 seconds.

Layer Your Frappuccino

Here comes the fun part. To make it look and taste like Starbucks, here’s what you should do:

  • Start by adding a layer of whipped cream to a 16 oz glass
  • A layer of cookie crumbles will go next
  • We like drizzling a bit of mocha sauce at this point
  • Pour the blended Frappuccino
  • Now goes the top layer of whipped cream
  • Drizzle some mocha sauce and end with a sprinkle of cookie crumbles

Which Coffee to Use for Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino

We usually prefer going with strongly brewed coffee and chilling it. This gives you a near-Starbucks experience and is also an easy option.

But, for the mornings when you are craving for a coffee-forward drink, our barista suggests trying a shot or two of strong espresso.

If you like it smooth and yet bold, but less acidic, cold brew is another very good option.

Even if you have no coffee maker, no problem. You can just whisk instant coffee in some hot water and chill it before adding to the drink. The bottom line is to go for stronger than regular coffee, or the flavor will be masked by milk, cream, and cookies.

Troubleshooting the Texture

One of the most common complaints we keep hearing about making mocha cookie crumble Frappuccino at home is, that it’s hard to get the texture right. You somehow end up with something too thin or too viscous. Here are a few quick hacks to fix this.

  • If it’s too thin, you should go for more ice and serve right after it’s done.
  • If it’s always a bit too thick, try adding a couple spoons of milk.
  • Your drink might end up too watery if you are using a bit too much of liquid or not chilling your coffee.
  • If the cookies disappear, and so does the crunch, you should probably blend a bit less and at lower speed, unless you want an iced coffee smoothie, or something watery like a frappe, instead of a Frappuccino.
  • You want your drink as creamy as Starbucks’ use whole milk.

What Can I Use Instead of Frappuccino Chips?

There are quite a few very good alternatives to Frappuccino chips. Below are a few that we’ve experimented with.

  • You can go for mini chocolate chips. They add the crunch and the chocolaty flavor.
  • Looking for a more dominant chocolaty tone, try semi-sweet dark chocolate.
  • We’ve tried chocolate coated espresso beans and they add that extra caffeine plus additional coffee flavor
  • Coarsely ground, a bit larger chocolate chunks for the extra crunch.

Our barista likes chocolate coated espresso beans for an authentic taste and caffeine, but if you’d prefer something easy to sip through a straw, go with mini chocolate chips.

How to Adjust the Sweetness of Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino?

This is the strength of a homemade version. While the Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino Starbucks is a bit too sweet for some, you can adjust your cup’s sweetness.

  • To make it less sweet, go for sugar-free coffee or use the mocha sauce only sparingly. You can also omit the vanilla syrup or reduce a layer of whipped cream.
  • For a more dessert like version, or if it is one of your cheat days, go for vanilla syrup and use extra whipped cream for adding more body. We like to add more cookie crumbles, though, as it gives the crunch along with sweetness.

Java Chip Vs. Mocha Frappuccino Vs. Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino Starbucks

Starbucks has quite a few blended beverages in the menu that most people confuse with each other. Especially, java chip Frappuccino, Mocha, and Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino may sound a bit similar. But they aren’t:

Drink Main difference
Mocha Frappuccino Coffee + mocha sauce
Java Chip Frappuccino Coffee + mocha + chocolate chips
Mocha Cookie Crumble Coffee + mocha + cookie crumble + Frappuccino chips
