Cookies and Cream Frappuccino Recipe; Rich and Indulgent

How about getting a ‘spoonful of coffee’ today? Cookies and cream Frappuccino is your coffee-cum dessert in a cup. This sweet yet robust and chocolaty treat is a coffee disguised as an Oreo shake, or perhaps the other way round (does it even matter?)

In this article, we’re diving spoon-first into what makes the Cookies and Cream Frappuccino such a cult classic. We’ll have a look at what exactly goes into a cup, whether it’s healthy, does it actually have coffee in it, and how you can make one at home exactly the way you’d like it, so you can call it ‘your cup of coffee’ (or maybe shake).

What Is a Cookies and Cream Frappuccino at Starbucks?

You’d be surprised to know that although the cookies and cream Frappuccino is a very popular drink at Starbucks, there’s nothing by this name in their official menu. It is actually a custom beverage that is ordered by customers after mixing up a few items on the menu.

You can say that it is made by modifying a standard double chocolate Frappuccino or a vanilla creme Frappuccino with the help of some delicious add-ons, making it into a totally Instagrammable treat. The result? A sweet and chocolaty, cookie-laden treat is creamy and mouthful. It resembles an Oreo shake except that it’s richer, and it may have coffee.

Cookies and Cream Frappuccino Ingredients

Since it is a custom creation, invented by the customers themselves by mixing and matching the available ingredients, you can tweak the ingredients to please your taste buds. However, although there’s no hard and fast recipe, here’s what mostly goes into a cup;

Base Ingredients

  • Vanilla Bean Crème Frappuccino or Double Chocolatey Chip Frappuccino
  • Milk (choose according to your preference)
  • Ice
  • Crème Frappuccino Syrup

Main Add-Ons

  • Mocha syrup
  • A handful of Java chips
  • A topping or base of whipped cream
  • A pump of roast coffee if you want a caffeine boost (optional)
  • An optional topping of cookie crumbles

Does the Cookies and Cream Frappuccino Have Coffee In It?

Cookies and Cream Frappuccino is normally ordered without coffee, but some baristas might add a shot of coffee roast, so that it has a single shot of coffee in it. However, it is totally optional, and if you don’t want to add coffee, you’ll need to make it clear to the barista. Some people prefer keeping it caffeine-free, making it a great option for kids and teens as well, and also for caffeine-sensitive people.

In short, if you are in for a rich and creamy treat, this blended beverage has you covered, and if you want an extra twist, go with some added coffee for a boost. There are two ways you can add a caffeine boost to your cup:

  • Go for a coffee base instead of crème
  • End your cup with an espresso shot on top

Cookies and Cream Frappuccino Calories

Let’s be honest, if you’re craving a cookies and cream Frappuccino, you’re either not concerned about the numbers, or it is your cheat day. This is because, like all indulgent beverages, this one too isn’t the lowest in calorie count. For Instance, a Grande 916-oz) serving has around 420 to 470 calories.

However, with a few tweaks, you can still keep the numbers within a ‘guilt-free’ range. Here are a few handy tips from our barista on how you can bring the numbers down and still enjoy a dessert drink with all its richness:

  • Replace whole milk with a vegan-based milk like coconut milk, almond milk, or oat milk to reduce the calories while still retaining the creamy texture and feel.
  • Go for fewer pumps of vanilla syrup or go for a sugar-free option if available
  • Go for the whipped cream only as a topping instead of also blending it in
  • Skip the extra toppings like cookie crumbles

Cookies and Cream Frappuccino Nutrition

Well, just like every other dessert drink, this one too has its good points and things to be wary of. Let’s look at its nutritional profile in depth from both angles.

The Good Ones

  • Calcium and Vitamin D: loaded with cream and milk, this treat provides a lot of these ingredients.
  • Protein: If you are using dairy milk or soy milk, you also get some protein.
  • Energy Boost: Although the added caffeine gives you an energy boost, even without that, the blended beverage has loads of carbs and sugar to provide an instant energy boost.

Things to Watch Out For

Sugary Beverage: Like all indulgent beverages, the Cookies and Cream Frappuccino is high in sugar. A standard 16-oz cup delivers a whopping 50 g of sugar

High Fat Content: Thanks to whole milk and added sugar, you get a considerable amount of saturated fat

To sum it up, it can’t be called a balanced or healthy beverage to have every now and then. You should either have it only occasionally or make some adjustments to what goes in your cup to enjoy it guilt-free.
