I used to love the luxurious and chocolaty flavor of my store-bought chocolate coffee creamer. It filled my morning coffee with that irresistible aroma of cocoa and the velvety goodness of indulgent chocolate. However, this was only until I decided to have a look at what goes into it. And oh my goodness! I mean, how could someone take this much sugar, preservatives, and highly processed ingredients to start the day, every single day?
This is when I finally decided to switch to a homemade version. I was surprised by how easy it has always been to get the same (or even better) texture, taste, and aroma while avoiding sugar spikes to start the day, skipping all the preservatives, and choosing what goes in your cup. My homemade creamer has the same rich taste and velvety feel, minus the guilt.

How to Make Healthy Homemade Chocolate Coffee Creamer?
Here’s my healthy homemade chocolate creamer recipe made with a few simple and organic ingredients that you can actually pronounce. It makes around four cups of coffee with the quantity for each of the ingredients mentioned below, but you can obviously increase the quantity, keeping the proportion the same, to make it in larger batches. Feel free to try variations according to your preferences.
Ingredients for Homemade Chocolate Coffee Creamer
Cocoa Powder: 2 tablespoons
This is to make your creamer not just taste chocolatey but smell chocolatey as well. If you can get your hands on organic cocoa powder, that would be a plus. You can use a chocolate syrup as an alternative as well.
Heavy Cream: 1 ½ cups
I prefer heavy cream because I like a heavier body and a richer texture.
Whole Milk: 1 ½ cups
I prefer dairy milk, but of course, you can go for a plant-based milk or for skimmed milk.
Honey: To taste
I highly prefer using honey as a sweetener compared to sugar. Go for naturally sourced pure honey for added goodness.
Vanilla Extract: 1 teaspoon
I simply love the aroma. Try getting organic vanilla extract for a better taste.
Instructions
- start by pouring milk and cream to a saucepan and heat it on the stove. Make sure the flame is not very high and stir occasionally to avoid scorching the mixture. Don’t bring it to a boil. Just let it steam
- Add honey to the mixture and stir it
- Turn the flame off and add vanilla extract
- Pour this hot mixture over sifted cocoa powder in another pan and stir continuously to let it combine well
- Pour it into a mason jar and store in the fridge once it cools down
Scrumptious Variations to the Chocolate Coffee Creamer Recipe
There’s a lot you can do with this basic recipe on the days when you feel a bit adventurous. Here are a few variations that I have tried so far and enjoyed.
- If you like the taste and aroma of spices, try adding a bit of cinnamon to your creamer, or to your cup directly once it’s ready.
- You can also add any flavor extract of your choice to the chocolate coffee creamer. My favorite one that goes well with this creamer and adds to the nuances of its rich taste is hazelnut. You can try almond as well.
- If you like your coffee a bit sweeter, try adding a bit of caramel. However, if you are trying to avoid too much sugar, this isn’t an option for you.
- I sometimes love adding some raspberry syrup for a bit of change and it really tastes awesome!
- If you are looking for a non-dairy chocolate coffee creamer, consider replacing the heavy cream with almond milk.
How to Store Homemade Chocolate Coffee Creamer
You can store your creamer in a clean and dry mason jar with a lid and put it in the refrigerator. Do not forget to shake it thoroughly before use. You can also freeze it just like ice cubes and use it in all the different ways with a varieties of beverages.
The expiry of your creamer depends mostly on the life of the dairy based ingredients you used. For example, the expiry of heavy cream should give you an idea of how long your coffee creamer stays good. However, generally, chocolate coffee creamers stored in cool, dry places last roughly for about a couple of weeks.
Can You Put Coffee Creamer In Hot Chocolate?

Absolutely. It tastes awesome when added to hot cocoa, tea, or even your morning cereal. It adds a chocolatey, rich taste and texture to every beverage. Try it with your favorite shake or smoothie, and you’d love the twist. Especially when added to the hot chocolate, it becomes a serious pick-me-up, a heavenly treat for chocolate and coffee lovers. The combination is just irresistible.
A Pro Tip By Our Barista
You can make your favorite flavors of coffee creamer in batches by adding additional ingredients like blueberry syrup, hazelnut syrup, orange extract, caramel, or almond milk, etc., to the original chocolate coffee creamer recipe.
